Meta Tries to Buy Within: Hit with Antitrust Lawsuit by FTC

 Yesterday, the Federal Trade Commission took Meta to court, filing an injunction over the tech giant’s bid to buy the emerging virtual reality company Within, which created the fitness app Supernatural. The antitrust lawsuit, set in motion by Lina Khan, seeks to bar Meta from expanding its grasp on the virtual and augmented reality landscape under the assumption that the two companies may become competitors if they were not to merge.  

In other news, Samsung has just announced that its new AI-powered Bespoke Washer and Dryer is available for pre-order via the company’s website. The new appliances come in three color options Brushed Black, Silver Steel or Brushed Navy and leverage the power of AI to determine the best wash settings to use. All pre-ordered Bespoke Washer and Dryers come with a three-year care package and customers have the option to extend their warranty for just $1.

Lastly, the electric car manufacturer Rivian is laying off 6 percent of its workforce with the goal of cutting costs while maintaining production. At the moment, Rivian’s workforce is comprised of 14,000 employees meaning that the layoffs will number roughly 850. The company is slowly trying to work its way through a 71,000 vehicle pre-order backlog for its R1T and R1S electric trucks.
